Most common percentage calculations in one place.
To find X% of Y: multiply Y by X and divide by 100. For example, 15% of 800 = (800 × 15) / 100 = 120.
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 45 is what percent of 200? Answer: (45/200) × 100 = 22.5%.
Percentage change = ((New Value - Old Value) / Old Value) × 100. If a stock goes from ₹100 to ₹130, that's a 30% increase. If it drops to ₹80, that's a 20% decrease.
If a price after 20% discount is ₹800, the original price = 800 / (1 - 0.20) = 800 / 0.80 = ₹1,000. Reverse percentage finds the original value before a percentage was applied.
GST is calculated as a percentage of the base price. For 18% GST on ₹1,000: GST = 1000 × 18/100 = ₹180. Total = ₹1,180. For GST-inclusive prices, base = Total / (1 + GST%).
